it's the thought that counts!

valentine's day...not my thing.
i mean i love the idea that you have that special someone who thinks you're just the best, but why can't they just show that everyday and not on just on the one designated day.
i'm also a hater on flowers.
you pay a ridiculous price for them, they sit on your counter for a few days, and then they die.
because of this carter and i decided on no gifts. it just didn't seem to be worth it to us.
instead we celebrated by going on a date to the vow and eating far too much pizza with some of our best friends.
way better than a stuffed teddy and flowers if you ask me.

but before you think i'm a total anti present giver, let me just say i did make cookies...
well i tried.
mel and i decided that we would be so fun and sneaky and make carter and adam decorated frosted heart cookies. we went to walmart, got the frosting and sprinkles etc. and we were just so excited. that night we told them that we were having a girls night and they were not allowed. we kicked them out and to say the least they weren't too thrilled with us.

we are too sneaky.

after they were gone we began baking... well we baked to the best that mel and i could.
it wasn't a pretty sight.
we got the ingredients all mixed together and then we realized that something was not right...
the dough was so sticky! like horribly sticky.
so we threw some flour on the table and spread the dough across it hoping that it would work...it didn't.

but you know mel and i, we just decided to keep going with it.
so we used our little heart cookie cutters and made all sorts of heart sizes...only to realize that we could not pick the dough up off the table because it was all stuck to the table!!

we tried everything, including scraping it off with a spatula.
it just did not want to work.
but we refused to give up so we just started picking up what we could and molding it into homemade hearts..

clearly it wasn't pretty but we sure tried our hardest!
while they were baking i decided to write one of my poems. i'd say it was one of the best ones i've written.

finally the cookies were done, well some of them.
and some were doughy.
but most were rock hard, just the way we like them... :)
but to cover up the fact that they were so hard we decided to frost those little babies on up!

and then we of course had to write on them, the only problem was that the frosting was still just a bit frozen.
but hey, the cookies were already awful so why not keep going?!

i guess you could say we tried to cover up the burnt taste with a mouthful of frosting.
so at midnight we woke up the boys, who really weren't that thrilled at being woken up, and gave them our wonderful, burnt masterpiece.
it was fun trying to make them, but mel and i have decided that in the end,
it's the thought that counts...
right?
